Product Colours and Coating System A
close cooperation between Vrogum and the Danish
paint manufacturer Dyrup A/S has resulted in the
development of the unique Vrogum Coat System, VCS,
which is a water based wood preservation system.
With the VCS you will have an effective protection
against rot and fungus and a beautiful and uniform
surface that will last for years.
The coating system is water based without solvents,
and is therefore environment-friendly, because no
solvents are used during production as it is the
case with the traditional method of vacuum
impregnation, and allergy-friendly, because there
are no infectious emanation from the items.
All end grains are sealed so that areas in danger of
having rot and fungus are protected in the best
possible way. The treatment also reduces the wood's
ability to absorb moisture, and thereby dimensions
and form stability remain.
Surface Treatment
All wood needs surface treatment and protection
against sun, wind and water.
Vrogum offers the following VCS-treatments:
Untreated (only VictoriaŽ Oak)
From nature VictoriaŽ Oak is extremely resistant. It
means that the requirements for the surface
treatment are not as big as with most other woods.
Thus VictoriaŽ Oak can be delivered untreated. Yet,
also VictoriaŽ Oak is to be protected against the
sun's UV-rays which can be done with hardwood oil or
another kind of good wood preservation.
Primer (Pine)
With this effective primer it is ensured that
possible fungus spores in the wood are inactivated
so that they can not cause damage to the wood later
on. Before being fitted the item has to be treated
with an effective, protective surface treatment.
Grey/White Base Coat
After the above primer a grey/white base coat
follows protecting end grains and joints. Moreover
the wood is treated with a knotting to minimise and
to avoid yellowing of the knots. Finally an extra
base coat is added ensuring a good layer thickness
and a good foundation before the end treatment is
added. The item has to be painted with a quality
window paint before fitting.
End Treatment
Finally you can choose to have your item end
treated. Before the end treatment the two above
treatments are carried out, and after that filling
and second scraping. Subsequently the item is
painted with a strong water based acrylic paint
ensuring a good layer thickness - also on joints and
weak spots. The result is an effective wood
preservation in paint or stain colours lasting for
years.
Maintenance
From the factory the rough items are impregnated
against rot and fungus with the Vrogum Coat System.
Items that are not delivered with a finished surface
treatment must both before and after the fitting
have at least one water repellent pigmented surface
treatment put on so that the items are
well-protected against percolation of water and the
sun's destructive X-rays. Rough items must not be
exposed to rain or direct sun light and must be
treated the first time 2 weeks after delivery at the
latest.
