Why
Wood?
The
following facts are from the UN-ECE (The United
Nations Economic Commission for Europe).
The production of a tonne of any raw material before
it is utilised in manufacture involves energy
consumption. This energy is known as ‘embodied
energy’.
uPVC consumes 45,000 KW/Hrs/tonne, Aluminium 25,000
KW/Hrs/tonne, and Wood 2000 KW/Hrs/tonne.
There are now more trees in northern Europe than
there were 100 years ago, and the annual surplus of
timber in Europe is 252million/m3, which is 30 times
total UK consumption.
This substantiates the fact that wood is a renewable
raw material which costs far less to produce than
other alternatives. This should preclude any
concerns regarding the destruction of the world’s
forests. The annual surplus is all due to the
reforestation programs that started thirty years
ago.
Vrogum is only using wood from sustainable forestry,
i.e. wood being replanted, and thus it stays a
constant natural resource without putting a strain
on the environment and future generations.
